Clicker Training is fun, easy and provides a positive reinforcement system for teaching an animal wanted behaviors. The Clicker is used as a Marker Signal to tell the animal it's doing an action that will bring a reward.
In Clicker Training, you don't tell an animal to do something, but instead you watch for the behavior you want, "Click!" the instant it happens and then reward with a treat. The kind of treat you use may be anything the animal enjoys ... food, praise, a pat, etc. The timing of the "Click!" is very important to communicating with your dog it has done the correct behavior.
You "Click!" the instant the behavior happens & follow with a treat.
When the animal is consistently doing the wanted behavior, name it. After the animal learns the name for the behavior, you can request the behavior by its name and when the animal complies with your request promptly, it gets a reward.
You keep the learned behavior going with your praise and approval, reserve the Clicker and treats for the next new behavior you want the animal to learn.
Clicker Training does not focus on stopping bad, unwanted behavior but on building good, wanted behavior.
It is exciting and fun for both animals and people. Animals quickly learn what the "Click!" means and that they can make you "Click!" by repeating the behavior. The animal becomes enthusiastic about learning and with Clicker Training you can eliminate the need for corrections.
